It has been decided to keep to the Whitsun weekend for 2011, so put the dates in your diaries NOW! May 27th to May 30th 2011.
The Festival will remain FREE with modest prices for camping... keep an eye out for a new shop page which will be added soon, along with a major update that will include the 2010 photo gallery and a number of other changes... The shop page will enable early booking of campsite pitches, as well as selling both our eye-catching, head-turning T-shirts and CD's of all the DFF2010 photographs as taken by our resident photographer Vikki Nuttall.
Post Festival Ramblings...
That was one fantastic weekend! The sun wasnt quite as kind as last year, but we had enough good weather that the dancers didnt get soaked, and the campers didnt get stuck in the mud!I personally have had some wonderful feedback from those who came - both during the festival, and on email since.
Geoff Lakeman, with the Unstrung Heroes was superb, the pub was packed for his concert... all other performers, including Ian Idris, Ross Grant and The Whalers were well received too by all accounts.
All the workshops were well attended, and thoroughly enjoyed... Phil de la Haye did 3 fantastic singing workshops and if you check out her information on the artists page you will find the first edited song from her last workshop...
The bagpipers managed to make plenty of noise during the weekend too, with lots of people trying them for the first time, and others who were able to play a tune or more!
Our Ceilidh in the Town Hall was the best yet, with lots of willing dancers and Slainte Va entertaining us with a variety of ceilidh dances and great songs, with extra entertainment in the break from Crokodile Tears.
Sessions continued all over town into the wee small hours most nights, sadly due to small children and extreme exhaustion I was only able to sample a small bit of the sessions. Thanks to Alan Whitbread and the Polden Ridge Mountain Boys who played all over town during the weekend.
And Morris, Earlsdon once again showed off their energy with some fantastic dancing, while Rag Morris added lots of colour to the festival to say the least!
Huge thanks are due to all who came, performers, dancers and all, because without you the festival wouldnt have been anywhere near as great, friendly and vibrant as it was! We are incredibly grateful to all who supported the festival by putting their coppers in the collecting tins; or buying raffle tickets, badges and T-shirts, we have a healthy budget to enable us to start planning the next festival!
The other thanks has to go to the town of Dulverton, to all the businesses who supported the festival in so many ways, without them we could not have put on the festival - or kept it free!
I am sure that there must be others who have not been thanked by name on this page who really should be, so a huge thanks to you all:).
We have a small number of festival T-shirts left which are on offer with a Paypal button below... if there is enough interest for us to order an extra batch we will do this, so if you dont see the size you want please drop me an email saying what size you would like.
We must now turn our attention to working out the details for next year's festival to make that every bit as good, and hopefully better...
Keep an eye out for any updates that may be added on here in due course, along with the photos that Vikki took, and more sound files of the events that I managed to record!

Update May 17th 2010...
Phil de la Haye has kindly stepped in to run the singing workshops because Cheryl is now unable to do this, so we look forward to learning some new songs and harmonies with Phil over the weekend. You can find out about Phils own regular singing group hereThe Festival T-Shirt designs have just gone off to the printers and we are crossing our fingers that they will be ready in time for the 28th! Look out for our great T's which will be on sale (we trust!) at the Folkal Point information stall in the Town Hall.
Update April 25th 2010...
We have several bits of news to mention here now...- We are pleased to announce that Rag Morris will be joining us at the Festival and dancing during the weekend.
- Following several requests, a page has been added to this site enabling you to download posters and flyers so that if you wish to promote our festival at your events you can do so easily - all such promotion is very much appreciated by us all!
- The Crabshell House Band will be coming in their entirety of 3 band members, rather than the 2 who were originally coming which is fantastic news!
- The Bridge Inn has kindly agreed to host a Quiz Night in order to help us raise funds for the festival, this will take place on Sunday May 9th.
- Many of our local folk sessions have been enhanced in recent months by raffles which are also helping to raise funds for the festival and we are very grateful to the following pubs who have allowed us to do this...
- Camping is being booked now, with
hardstanding spaces becoming more limited, so if you plan to come with
a van of any description please do ensure you get in touch to book your
pitch as soon as possible.
Update March 10th 2010...

You will be pleased to hear that we have now just about finalised all acts for the weekend and have a fantastic line up - check out the artists page for all band and performer details. We are delighted to be able to offer this year's festival for FREE once again - this would not have been possible if it were not for our fantastic sponsors and advertisers whom we hope that you will support in kind when you visit our beautiful town, you can find out what they offer by checking our sponsors page.
You can now advance book your pitch for camping - with full details to be found on the newly created camping page.
After many hours of editing, collating information and bringing together all the adverts from our wonderful local businesses, the printed programme is now ready for you to buy - you can do this by going to the events page and clicking on the Paypal button - or, if booking camping, you can add the money to the camping total. If you are in Dulverton you can buy a programme from one of the 5 outlets as listed on the events page.

July 3 2009...
I have now completed
editing the hours of recordings I did during the festival - resulting
in 130 tracks of songs, tunes, laughs and more from the 3 days that my
recording gizmo and I were there ... now comes the challenge to create
some CD's which we think you will enjoy listening to!
I am currently thinking
of doing a "Best of the Fest" CD which will be a single CD with what
the FOC (Festival Organising Committee) consider to be the best bits,
and because there are sooooo many good songs, I also think we will end
up creating an extra CD, which will contain
"The Rest of the Best" - it's going to be a challenge listening to so
many hours of songs and choosing those worthy of going onto the CD's so
I am now handing this part of the task over to the rest of the
FOC - also hoping that they will be able to name the tracks I
havent been able to, and will know who all the performers were!
Bex
Dont forget you can email me if you would like
to be first in line when the CD's are ready!
June 2009...
It's all over! Boo... we
had such a wonderful time, with a fantastic
atmosphere, lots of lovely friendly people - thank you to all who came
and helped to make the Festival so much fun! Not only that but we were
blessed with the most spectacularly good weather which ensured that all
our plans for outdoor events went off without a hitch - the storywalk
through the wood was well received, Francis delighting listeners with
her tales, as was her storytelling session on Exmoor Lawns. With some
great fun singing workshops which culminated in the performing of 4
songs at the ceilidh, and lots of sessions, and of course the wonderful
dancing by the incredibly energetic Earlsdon Morris and Exeter Morris.
Look out for the photos
from this year's festival being added to the gallery in the next few
months.
Now comes the challenge
of creating as good a festival next year, ideally we would like to make
it better... so back to the FOC meetings to get wheels in motion for
DFF 2010!
If you would like to
offer something for next year's festival (which I believe will also be
over the Whitsun Bank Holiday Weekend 2010) please do get in touch.
As well as starting to
plan for next year, I have already started a long task of editing the
recordings I did during the festival - eventually
it is hoped we will be offering a CD for sale capturing the energy,
atmosphere and vitality of this year's festival - any copies sold will
help to ensure we can keep next year's festival free as well - so do
check back again soon to see if it's available and purchase your copy,
or drop me an email and
I will let you know when they are available.
I am sure we will be
aiming to do some more fundraising activity throughout the coming year
to help ensure our aim of free folk can continue, so keep an eye on
this site to see what might be happening, when and where....
Did you attend the
festival? Do you have comments for us to help make next year even
better? Please do let us know your thoughts - either to myself or John Lowday.
