and join us for the
4th
Annual FREE
DULVERTON
FOLK FESTIVAL
Whitsun
Weekend 28th – 31st May 2010
For
the 4th year running Dulverton will be hosting it’s free
folk
festival over the Whitsun weekend, 4 days of folk music, song and dance
all
provided for FREE!
There
are events for all, starting with an opening procession on Friday
evening which
will be led by Alec Smith on bagpipes.
The
concerts lineup this year includes:
- Geoff
Lakeman (Seth Lakeman’s Dad!) with the Unstrung Heroes
- Slainte Va
– a merry band of school teachers from the Isle of Wight - who are both
playing for the Saturday ceilidh and a concert on Sunday
- Local
English folk singer/songwriter, Ian Idris
- And many
more…
On
Saturday afternoon you can head to the Town Hall for a ceilidh dance,
complete
with food provided by local caterers the Exclusive Cake Company.
Other
events include:
- Morris
Dancing around the streets.
- Story-telling,
including a very popular storywalk through Burridge Woods.
- Workshops
with Geoff Lakeman; Cheryl Shepard (singing) and Alec Smith (bagpipe
playing).
- Street
Performance with Betty Peartree and the Dog Catcher
- Craft
Stalls in the Town Hall.
- LOTS of DIY
entertainment with sessions happening in venues around town all weekend.
The
Dulverton Folk Festival is entirely funded by the generosity and
support of
local business and individuals including advertising in the Dulverton
Folk
Festival Programme & on the website www.dulvertonfolkfestival.net
plus events and raffles put on by the organisers.
We
also have generous sponsors, such as Alec Smith of Lauriebeck www.lauriebeck.co.uk who made
a
beautiful set of Scottish Smallpipes which he recently auctioned on
Ebay to
raise the funds to pay for the festival Ceilidh.
We
have modestly priced camping in Dulverton, close to all the events and
the pubs.
Dulverton
is well known for excellent food and drink, shops and cafes.
Both
the Bridge Inn and the Rock House Inn are sponsoring and hosting
concerts and
sessions throughout the weekend. You cannot afford to miss this great
event!
